U.S. Bank Home Mortgage is a full-service mortgage operation serving all 50 states. The original U.S. Bancorp was headquartered in Portland, Oregon. US Bancorp bought West One Bancorp in 1995. First Bank System acquired U.S. Bancorp in 1997. In 2000, U.S. Bancorp merged with Firstar Bank.

The ranking was based on pre-tax profit figures for common stock, non-cumulative preference stock, share premium reserve, disclosed reserves including retaining earnings, minority interests and funds for general banking risk.
